Dark Shadows, the new Tim Burton movie, with Johnny Depp
Dark Shadows was an unusually creepy show for its time. Granted there have been oddly eccentiric characaters in films going as far back as the 1930′s possibly even farther, but one actor that comes to my mind. Vincent Price. If you have not seen the 1953 HOUSE OF WAX, I highly recommend it. I remember watching Dark Shadows re-runs when I was younger and I would think the whole time, “What in the world is going on?”
Well now we know a little of what is going to happen.
Dark Shadows is going to be put up on the big screen, directing by Tim Burton and staring Johnny Depp as vampire Barnabas Collins. Now something that makes this very interesting to me is that the script by John August (CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, BIG FISH, CORPSE BRIDE and TITAN A.E. which sadly is one of my guilty pleasures) is getting a new draft by writer Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, as well as Abe Lincoln:Vampire Hunter. That bit of news definitely adds even more intrigue to this project.
Dark Shadows was a gothic soap opera that was nominated for an Emmy in 1968. The show surrounded the Collins family and the strange mysteries that occurs on there property. I remember there being a very dark secret hidden deep in the Collins family personal burial tombs.
